Yamba Uniting Church

November 2019 KH Inspired Design was called upon by the Uniting Church Parish Board to create a fresh new Image for Yamba’s Uniting Church.

The brief

The Brief revolved around creating a Welcoming space in which Paritioners both young & old could gather together in a nurturing & uplifting environment.

It was also advantageous to subtly reference the coastal environment in which the Church is situated, thereby further enhancing the welcoming nature of the building.

The main issues which needed to be addressed before this could be achieved included a lack of storage for the necessary office equipment & admin items, abundance of fluro strip lighting & dated colour scheme.

Constraints which needed to be taken into account included the existing tiles, carpet, parish chairs, blinds & fans – which all had to stay as is & be merged into the new concept.

Items Addressed Include:

  • De-clutter & simplify entrance first & foremost.
  • Relocating all necessary office equipment & items (formally located opposite the entry foyer) behind a purpose built alcove hidden around the corner to the right of the entry.
  • Create a sitting / conversation / meeting zone in the space formally occupied by the office equipment.
  • Install feature pendant lighting in the entry foyer.
  • Replace all fluorescent tubes with dimmable LED downlights to unclutter the ceiling space.
  • Fresh new Colour scheme to walls & ceiling to reflect the coastal environment.
  • Keep the existing timber panelling for welcoming warmth – but refinish.
  • Frame the existing handcrafted wall hangings with timber frames to link with the timber panelling & give them a new lease of life.
  • New lounge furniture in durable finishes, fabrics & colours to complement the new colour palette.
  • Tile the Exterior front entry in an organic / natural tile.
  • Add welcome greenery in the form of plants to the Entry, the interior & exterior plantings of the Building.
